About the project

FreeStop — a map for those on the move: caravanners, cycle tourists, backpackers and travellers in general who want to know where to stop, where to eat and what to see.

Why we do this

We’re fed up with directories full of adverts, out-of-date information and paid listings at the top of search results instead of genuinely good ones. FreeStop is different — right from the very first decision about the product:

  • No adverts from third-party companies.
  • No banners or adverts from companies that are not relevant to the specific location in your search.
  • Search results prioritise actual places, not adverts.

Verified business profiles with a paid subscription are displayed higher up in the relevant search results — this is a transparently disclosed part of the monetisation model, not hidden advertising for third-party products amongst the search results.

The data comes from real people. Every location, every review, every ‘I’ve been here’ confirmation comes from a genuine traveller – not from a bot or fake accounts.

An honest assessment of legality. If a car park is in a grey area, we state this as such, without sugar-coating it just to make the map look nice.

Who is this for?

  • Caravan sites — legal, free parking spaces, verified by the community
  • For cycle tourists – compact rest stops along the route
  • For backpackers – budget hostels with honest reviews
  • For tourists – hotels, cafés and attractions all in one place
  • For local guides, it’s an opportunity to share their knowledge of their city without having to travel themselves
  • For businesses – a map that travellers actually use, without having to pay for advertising to get noticed

Where are we now

The project is currently under active development, with the launch beginning in the Baltic states. The map grows alongside the community — the more people add places and leave reviews, the more useful it becomes for the next traveller...
